How to design and choose the bathroom lighting?
The bathroom is generally divided into dry and wet areas, and the requirements for lamps are relatively high. The LED lamps must be highly waterproof to prevent water vapor from entering and compromising the light efficiency and service life of the lamps.
The dry area can be divided into basic lighting, facial lighting, countertop lighting, atmosphere lighting, and lighting in the toilet area.
The lighting in the wet area is relatively simple, primarily consisting of the basic lighting in the bathroom.

How to layout the lighting for the dry area?

1. Basic lighting

Basic lighting simply meets daily lighting needs. As long as it can illuminate the bathroom, it is fine. Generally, suitable downlights are selected and installed in the center of the bathroom. It is recommended to choose waterproof spotlights with a large beam angle of more than 50°. The color temperature is selected according to personal preference. Additionally, the power is selected based on the area and the number of lamps. Generally, 7W or 9W is more commonly used.

2. Facial lighting

Bathroom facial lighting is quite important for individuals who need to apply makeup. Therefore, high brightness and high CRI (color rendering index) are very important. And CRI>95 is better.

3. Countertop lighting

It is recommended to install 1-2 spotlights directly above the wash basin.

For small local lighting, it is recommended to use spotlights with a 36° beam angle (7W) to provide bright, more concentrated light, making the space appear brighter and more spacious.

In addition, the light beam coming down from the ceiling has a degree of brightness and darkness, which will also make the basin look more beautiful and provide a better visual experience.

4. Atmosphere lighting

Whether it’s a dry area or a wet area, using the induction strip light will provide a better experience. It can not only offer functional lighting effects for the bathroom space but also add a sense of atmosphere, making it both practical and beautiful.

For example, it is installed under the cabinet. This is an atmosphere artifact for low-level lighting. The hollow countertop is equipped with a strip light to achieve a good lighting effect. It is recommended to install the strip light in the front so that the items on the countertop can be illuminated.

The voltage of the strip light can be 12V or 24V, which is considered a low voltage. The color temperature is 3000K, which looks warm and comfortable.

How to layout the lighting for the toilet area?

Do not install lights directly above the toilet. If the lamps are shining on the top of your head, it makes you feel uncomfortable.

The correct way to arrange the lights is to install an anti-glare spotlight (anti-glare value UGR<10) about 20-30cm in front of the toilet. Choose a waterproof LED Downlight with a large beam angle of more than 36°, which is sufficient and uniform.

How to layout the lighting for the wet area?

1. Shower room

Avoid installing lamps directly above the shower. The light shines on the shower and reflects on the ceiling to form a large, unsightly light spot, which will also appear dazzling.

It is recommended to install waterproof downlights with a beam angle of 55° (UGR < 10) and position them 20-30 cm in front of the shower to illuminate the entire shower area. No matter which side you look at, the light is very comfortable.

2. Bathtub

If you use a bathtub in your bathroom, and the bath time is longer than the shower time. Do not shine the spotlight on your head for an extended period, as this can make you feel uncomfortable and cause reflections when using your phone. Key points for bathtub lighting installation:

a. The spotlight is installed at the end of the bathtub, above the calf and the drain. Choose a 7W, 4000 K color temperature, 36° beam angle lamp, which can illuminate the bathtub area and create a layered, atmospheric ambiance without feeling oppressive.

b. If the ceiling of the bathtub area is made of waterproof gypsum board, you can create a reflective light trough and use linear lights to diffuse soft light, creating a relaxing bathing environment.

6 tips to help us choose the IP65 LED waterproof fixture for the bathroom

Power: Choose 7W for bathroom lamps, which is suitable for home use.

Color temperature: Choose 4000K or 5000K for a brighter light.

Material: It is best to choose a fully aluminum one-piece lamp material, which offers good heat dissipation performance, reduces light decay, and extends the lamp’s service life.

Super anti-glare design: If the anti-glare value (UGR) is less than 10, there are lamps with multiple anti-glare designs that conceal the light source, allowing people to see the light but not the lamp, making them more comfortable in the space.

Waterproof level: The bathroom is a place with high water vapor, so it is essential to consider the waterproof performance of the lamps. It is recommended to choose IP65 waterproof downlights, which offer superior waterproof performance and are particularly suitable for use in areas such as bathrooms and kitchens.

CRI (Color Rendering Index): It is recommended to choose lamps with a color rendering index (Ra) of 95 or higher. Lamps with a high color rendering index can effectively restore the natural color of the bathroom itself and also enhance its overall appearance.

6 types of bathroom lighting

In real life, we can find out that people always choose waterproof downlights in the bathroom. The LED lamps are differentiated between the dry and wet areas, which not only improves the lighting effect but also enhances the sense of layering in the bathroom, making the entire space appear softer and making home life more comfortable.
